Setting up a nursery for my very first child has been such a surreal experience and something that I have only dreamed of doing until now. Becoming a mother for the first time, there are so many amazing and wonderful firsts and new experiences. Bonding with my baby through slowly piecing together a nursery has been helping me prepare for motherhood in a way I never expected. I spend so much time in the doorway just staring at this room, or sitting in the rocking chair, and it brings me to tears how happy and excited I am to spend time with my little one in this space so soon.
When we first found out that we were having a boy, I had little ideas for a theme. I am not one for going too crazy into an obvious or obnoxious theme, but tend to lean towards more of a subtle theme with a set color pallet. I searched Pinterest and some nursery inspo websites and finally fell in love with the ideas of a baby safari animal nursery! I think I went against the typical order of interior design, because the first thing I purchased were the baby safari animal prints for the wall from TheCrownPrints.com and designed the entire room around them, starting with the wallpaper and furniture.
We knew we wanted a simple grey crib that we could use for this baby and another baby in the future, along with some neutral dressers. I knew I wanted our nursery colors to be white, grey and blue with some natural wood accents so keeping the furniture simple and clean made the most sense. We found the crib at BuyBuyBaby and the dressers from IKEA, and were pleased with the quality of both!
One of my favorite things that we shopped for was the rocking chair. There’s something about a rocking chair that really makes everything feel so real to me! We found ours at a Pottery Barn Outlet and were able to purchase the floor model, which I highly recommend doing if you have an outlet store near you as it was less than half the price and in perfect condition. The rest of the nursery was pieced together over time through endless Target, Homegoods, HobbyLobby and online shopping runs.
I am looking forward to spending many *sleepless* nights in this room with my little one, and am so happy that it all finally came together. Its such a peaceful space and I hope he loves it as much as I do!
I linked as many items as I could that are pictured below!
