Today’s DIY project is how to make yarn pumpkins! So cute and festive, plus this would make such a fun craft to do at a festive party with friends.
What You Will Need:
- Styrofoam balls
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Jute yarn (or you can use small sticks) for the stems
- Knife (to cut the Styrofoam balls)
- Large plastic needle or loop turner
- Glue gun
- Drill (to make the hole in the middle of the styrofoam balls)
Step 1
Cut the edges off of the styrofoam ball to make a squished circle shape fit for pumpkins. (You can ignore the small holes in the photo below, as I was experimenting with my drill before starting this project)
Step 2
Drill a wide hole through the middle of the styrofoam ball. The hole needs to be pretty wide, about 1/2 inch diameter depending on the thickness of the yarn you are going to use.
Step 3
String the yarn through the hole for the first time, and tie off before you continue to loop through the hole. You can shift the yarn so that your knot goes inside the styrofoam ball and doesn’t show on the outside. Give yourself a bunch of slack from the ball of yarn before cutting off. As you continue to loop your yarn, you will run out of slack. As you need more yarn, tie the end to a new piece from the ball of yarn, and try to measure it so the knot ends up inside the styrofoam ball.
Step 4
Once you have completely covered the ball with yarn, tie off the end of your yarn with a double knot to secure.
Step 5
Glue a piece of jute yarn (or stick if you prefer) to the top of your yarn ball to make the stem.
I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy project! You can switch up the size of the styrofoam balls and yarn colors for some variety. Hope you have a wonderful Fall!
